Parent Involvement

Parent involvement in the school is highly valued and encouraged.

Parents are frequently asked for assistance in classrooms and some parents will stay for longer in the mornings to listen to reading or to support the teacher. Please talk to the class teacher if you are able to help.

Parent in involvement also includes support with homework, reading, school communications, providing school with feedback and ideas and being prompt to return notes.

Governing Council

The role of Governing Council is directed by a constitution and a code of practice.

  • Governing Councils in conjunction with school leadership set broad directions for the school.
  • Develops broad policy statements that facilitate achievement of the school vision and direction.
  • Initiate and approve recommendations and strategies.
  • Governing Council has final responsibility for budget approval.

Site management and educational leadership is the responsibility of the principal and staff.

Membership consists of 16 councillors which includes the principal, 13 elected parents and 2 staff . Parents are elected for 2 years with half elected each year to ensure some experience and consistency on the Governing Council.

Annual meetings are held in March. Two meetings are held each term in the evening.

Members of Governing Council also are represented on the OSHC Advisory and the Finance Committee.

Hewett Fundraising Group

This group meets regularly and runs a range of fundraising events for the school. The meetings are held in the Staff Room.

Defence Families Cuppa Tea Time

This group meets during term time with the DSM support person. They develop support for each other and provide advice and ideas for the Defence families.
